It was about this time last year, in 2016, that the Newcastle Herald ran an article on one of the many faces that makes this event possible each year, Mr. Howard Mole.

Here's an extract from the article and you can read the full story here: http://www.theherald.com.au/story/4186637/a-quiet-achiever-who-supports-many-causes/?cs=316

IT would have been about 1994 when Howard Mole first met “Big John” Young – the biker with a big heart behind the annual Newcastle Toy Run. Mr Mole was working as an officer for the Salvation Army, and offered to provide a barbecue for the 300 bikers and spectators attending that year’s event... As much as Mr Mole loved the idea of providing children with a special gift or toy at Christmas, he was perhaps more passionate about the parents’ dignity.
